Lavender oil’s health benefits and applications
Lavender contains an oil that appears to have calming properties and may relax specific muscles. It also appears to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Many people use lavender to treat anxiety, stress, insomnia, depression, dementia, pain, and a variety of other ailments, but there is little scientific evidence to back up many of these claims.
Possibly useful for:
Anxiety. Taking a specific lavender oil supplement (Silexan) by mouth appears to help with anxiety relief. Aromatherapy with lavender oil or aromatherapy massage appears to be beneficial as well.
Depression. Taking lavender products by mouth, such as teas and a specific oil supplement (Silexan), appears to alleviate depression symptoms.
Cramps during menstruation (dysmenorrhea). Aromatherapy with lavender oil appears to help reduce menstrual pain.
